Throughout my numerous visits to the East Ceasar Chavez neighborhood in Austin I kept noticing the Hispanic culture influence and the splash of color throughout the area. I decided to make my book about just that. I wanted to do something that not only reflect what I noticed in the neighborhood, but do it in a not so direct way. So I decided to do a mystery children’s book that had inspiration from both the colorful neighborhood and film noir.

Program Book: TASA
The TASA: Community and Art is an outstanding program of speakers, events, and forums around the topics of community and art. The 2013 conference theme, Art + Community is a shared dialog of green art, social-activism, collaboration and community art that explores the open exchange of ideas, influences, policies and actions that artists and communities engage in both at the local and global level. This booklet was made with a clean and open layout. The green and blue colors where chosen to signify the idea behind the theme.
The session book is located inside the TASA: Art + Community. It gives you all the information of each session during the program.
How to Book
This How to Book is about opening an unlocked door. My chosen audience was children. I attempted to make the book have a light humorous feel throughout with the images.
Material Study
I was assigned a material studies project in which I had to explore different materials. The ultimate goal of this project was to decide upon a material and create our own typeface from it. I experimented with light bulbs, sponges, and springs. I finally decided to choose sponges for my type because of their texture, color, and shape.
Specimenbook
This is a specimen book that displays the typeface futura. I decided to go towards a geometric, playful design that showed the geometric design aspect of the typeface futura. This was the first time I used InDesign and saddle stich binding.
